How to Set Up Imported Criteria

If your Project has dozens of Criteria, you may find it more convenient to import your criteria from Excel into Bonfire. The process is very simple and requires the use of a special template prepared specifically for this purpose.

NOTE: You will want to set up your Evaluation Groups before importing Criteria, as trying to import Criteria assigned to a non-existent Evaluation Group will result in an error.

First, select the Criteria section on the left hand side of the project page and click the Import button.

Next, download the template to be used to fill in the criteria by clicking Download:

This will download an Excel template, which you can then open and fill in the columns as shown. First, select either Criteria Group or Criterion. Next fill in the Title, Criteria Type, and Weight (note for Pass/Fail Criteria there is no weight, and as such you can leave it blank), then a description of the criteria (if necessary, otherwise this can be left blank). Below is an example:

Once all required information has been assigned for each Criterion / Criteria Group, the row will automatically be highlighted in Green to indicate completion.

NOTE: Please do NOT remove any blank rows or delete the "Criterion" cell from blank rows. Even if these rows do not contain any Criteria to be imported, deleting them can cause errors during the import process.

Once the template has been filled out, save the file. Make sure the file stays in .xlsx format, otherwise the import won't work. You can then go back to the Criteria page and click Import. Then click Choose File, select your Import Template file, and click Upload.

If there was an issue with the import, an orange warning banner will pop up with further details. Otherwise you should see a message about your import being successful, and can press Hide and wait for the page to refresh with your imported criteria.

NOTE: Importing criteria from the same Excel file does not overwrite the existing criteria, but just creates a brand new set. This is because the Import function only adds new criteria and doesn't examine existing criteria prior to import.

You can always edit any of your imported criteria by pressing the Manage button within the Criteria page.
